What is Express Entry?

Express Entry is Canada’s flagship immigration system for skilled workers. It manages applications for three federal economic immigration programs: Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class. The system ranks candidates using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) and invites the highest-scoring candidates to apply for permanent residence.

Federal Skilled Worker (FSW)

For skilled workers with foreign work experience who want to immigrate to Canada permanently.

  • Minimum 1 year continuous full-time work experience
  • NOC TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 occupation
  • Language proficiency (CLB 7 minimum)
  • Educational credential assessment
  • Proof of funds

Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

For skilled workers with Canadian work experience who want to become permanent residents.

  • Minimum 1 year Canadian work experience
  • NOC TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 occupation
  • Language proficiency requirements
  • Work experience gained in last 3 years
  • No proof of funds required if currently working

Federal Skilled Trades (FST)

For skilled tradespeople who want to become permanent residents based on qualification in a skilled trade.

  • Minimum 2 years work experience in skilled trade
  • Valid job offer or certificate of qualification
  • Language proficiency (CLB 5 speaking/listening, CLB 4 reading/writing)
  • Meet job requirements of skilled trade

The Express Entry Process

Eligibility Assessment

CRS Ranking

Your profile is ranked against other candidates in the pool using the Comprehensive Ranking System.

Invitation to Apply (ITA)

If you rank among the top candidates, you’ll receive an ITA for permanent residence.

Submit Application

You have 60 days to submit a complete application with all supporting documents.

Processing & Decision

IRCC processes most applications within 6 months. Upon approval, you become a permanent resident of Canada!
